Aromatherapy is the name we use today for the ancient knowledge of healing and promoting health using fragrant aromatic natural ingredients, specifically plant oils which we call Essential Oils.
The origins of Aromatherapy are attributed to the Ancient Egyptians dating back to 4500B.C., and studies have revealed the vast knowledge of aromatics amongst the ancient civilisations of China, India, Arabia and Greece.
Modern Aromatherapy is a truly holistic therapy which embraces the mind, body and spirit of a person seeking help and takes account of their lifestyle, eating patterns etc., to promote health and well being.
Essential oils themselves are derived from a diverse range of plants and have been described as containing the soul and vibrant energy of each plant. They are extremely concentrated and are effective in very small amounts. Their molecules may resemble hormones and have healing, antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant properties.
Aromatherapy treatments involve the application of essential oils to the individual usually by massage of the entire body. This is deeply relaxing and aids absorption of the oils through the skin into the bloodstream and assists in the elimination of toxins.
Treatment may also include inhalations, compresses and aromatic baths.
